  The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP)
was established in 1981 and has grown to over 4,000 members in 26 chapters across the United States.  SGMP is the only national organization in the United States dedicated exclusively to improving the knowledge and expertise of individuals in the planning and executing of government meetings through education, training, and industry relationships.

SGMP is a non-profit, professional organization of persons involved in planning government meetings and those individuals who supply services to government planners.  Our objectives are to improve the quality and promote the cost-effectiveness of government meetings.

Represented in SGMP's membership are employees of federal, state, county, and city government, associations of governmental employees and governmental agencies; and representatives from hotels, convention and visitor bureaus, and other industry arenas.

Locally, the Arizona chapter provides innovative techniques, educational seminars, and networking opportunities to promote resourceful planning of government meetings.

Our Mission:  

The Arizona chapter of the Society of Government Meeting Professionals is dedicated to the improvement of government meetings through a partnership between planners and suppliers, which provides quality education, networking, and mutual benefits.

Our Objectives:

·        Expand the knowledge and professionalism of government and contract planners through formal educational programs.

·        Improve understanding and cooperation between planners and suppliers through regular meetings, informal discussions, and educational conferences.

·        Aid government meeting planners in locating and evaluating meeting facilities and support services and negotiating contracts.

Additional objectives adopted June 2005

  • 100 members by May 2006 National Conference.

  • Increase meeting attendance by 30%

  • Increase committee membership by 20%

  • Increased public awareness of SGMP

  • Communication between board and members by way of newsletters,
    e-mail, etc.
